Morning Duty PAID date stamps 1846-1857

A new circular stamp was introduced in 1846. This had the lettering in block capitals, the date either side of the month and a two-letter identification code. It also had the year in a straight line, and was applied, as usual, in red ink

This letter dated 15 January 1845 was written and posted in Chippenham, Wiltshire and addressed to Messrs Metcalfe & Woodhouse, Solcrs, Lincolns Inn, London.

Will you allow me to call your attention to my letter to you with reference to the dilapidations at Berry town. I trust Mr Metcalfe has been able to resume Business and that I may expect forthwith to hear from him as it is a matter of consequence to my Clients that the matter should be adjusted without any further delay
