Population (1995) 830. The Vatican City State (SCV), seat of the Holy See, lies within the city of Rome, Italy, on the western bank of the River Tiber, containing a total area of 0.44 sq km. The three public entrances to the city are "The Bronze Doors", The Arch of the Bells", and the "Via di Porta Angelica". The stamps of Italy were used from 1870 to 1929 and the first Vatican stamps were issued on 1st August 1929. Vatican stamp booklet.
