First Day Covers provide a permanent, visual record of the date of issue of a stamp or stamp series. The cover usually carries details of the stamp or of the purpose behind the issue. These covers commemorate "National Stamp Week 1982" and "Australia Day 1983" The latter cover shows a "gutter pair" cancelled with both the 'First Day of Issue' postmarker and the 'Everyday' postmarker. These postmarkers are examples of 'pictorial cancellations'.
