KING EDWARD THE EIGHTH.

KING EDWARD THE EIGHTH.

Varieties.

The 1½d value.

The coif flaw.

This variety occurred on cylinder 2 only.

State 1 of the cylinder was unblemished.

State 2 showed damage below the control mark in the left margin.

State 2.

The cylinder was re-chromed, and this lessened the damage but further damage occurred, just above the Kings head on the first stamp in row eighteen, and appeared as if the hair had become dis-arranged and was standing up. This was state 3. The cylinder was again re-chromed and the mark appeared as only a very faint smudge. This was state 4.

State 3.             State 4.

We have no examples of states 1 and 2 and the only example we have of state 3 is on this
Morocco Agencies overprint.

The 2½d value.

Checking KEVIII 2½d blues I came across a block of twelve, 3 x 4 with bottom selvedge.
One of the stamps on Row 17 has what appears to be a retouch just below the ear.
It consists of a light patch with two dark spots.
Intrigued I checked further and then found I have the same flaw on a Morocco Agencies overprint
in a larger block with control A36 2 no dot Row 17 Stamp 4.
I can find no reference to this variety in the SG catalogue nor the Kirk, Stanton or Vallancy booklets.
If anyone has any examples of this I would be pleased to hear from you.
